A year in Auckland

We survived a year in Auckland!!! Well almost Auckland. We lived in Titirangi in the bush, next to the sea. It was quite a chaotic time in our lives, with Mr Young starting a new job flying bigger planes. We also started a picture framing business that sells frames to photographers all over the country. We also opened our first studio outside of our home in the beautiful Titirangi Village. It was an incredible space, with beautiful light. I absolutely loved being surrounded by lush bush & delicious cafes... All that ontop of settling three kiddos into school and preschool... I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

We had planned to stay for two years but the call of the South Island was just too strong.

We did however make some incredible friendships, take some awesome photos as we explored a beautiful part of the country.

Tititrangi Photography Studio

The beautiful light in the Titirangi studio.

We had no family help in Auckland so the kids spent many hours "helping" in the studio and learning how to work the "Hot Chocolate" machine.

I had so much work on that sometimes I would sleep at the studio! lol! - I told you it was a crazy time!

Our new picture framing business - Deadtree. We started this out of desparation when we opened the Titirangi Studio in the middle of winter - It was a bit tough!!! Framing really helped pay our rent in those early days. We actually really ended up loving this little business - More serious name change - coming soon!

Summer was incredible

Blenheim Darkness

I love light... normally I shoot with a lot of it.However our new place in Blenheim is incredibly dark.Tinted windows, dark carpet, dark walls and large trees surrounding the back of the property. It has been making me feel slightly depressed :(So I played all day today, I got out of my funk... and eventually did find a little bit of magic. It scared me at first, its so not me... but now i think I'm in love.darkness

Cape Reinga at Sunset

This week we said Goodbye to all our Northland friends... It was pretty rough. We have met such beautiful people up North and made such special friendships that the word FRIEND doesn't seem appropriate... we've made family.

Before we left we went on a special trip to witness Cape Reinga at sunset from the lighthouse. I cannot describe what it felt like to be up there for the golden hour until dark... but it was by far the most magical sight my eyes have ever seen...cape reinga, Northland new zealandCape Reinga-013 Cape Reinga-007 Cape Reinga-005 Cape Reinga-008 Cape Reinga-002 Cape Reinga-003 Cape Reinga-004 Cape Reinga-009 Cape Reinga-006 Cape Reinga-011 Cape Reinga-012 Cape Reinga-010 Cape Reinga-001Thank you Northland for all the love & support during our six years living in Paihia & Kerikeri.
